Air supply

Pneumatic tools need clean, oiled air. The orbital sander uses about 4 CFM at 90 PSI through a 1/4-inch inlet, so plan on a compressor of 3 kW or more. Drop a little air-tool oil into the inlet before each session and drain the compressor tank.

Random orbital vs. die grinder

A random orbital sander finishes flat surfaces — wood, metal and auto body — without swirl marks. A die grinder works in tight places: deburring, edge smoothing, polishing with stones and small pads.
